May 29, 2026Mid Century Danish Sofa Model ML-90 By Illum Wikkelsø
€5,950.00
Designed by the renowned Danish designer Illum Wikkelsø, the ML-90 sofa is, in our opinion, one of the most successful and visually appealing sofa designs of the entire mid-century period. Dating from the late 1960s, this original three-seater perfectly captures the clean lines, craftsmanship, and understated elegance that made Scandinavian furniture so influential around the world.
What makes the ML-90 particularly special is its shape. The angular form is beautifully resolved from every viewpoint, whether viewed from the front, side, or rear. Unlike many sofas that are designed to sit against a wall, this is a piece that looks equally impressive floating within a room. The sculptural arms, gently reclining backrest, and distinctive solid golden oak base combine to create a sofa that is both architectural and inviting.
This example retains its original moss-green upholstery, a colour that sits particularly well against the warmth of the oak frame. The solid oak base and elegant crossed-leg construction add further visual interest and are a testament to the quality of Danish cabinetmaking during this period.
As good as it looks, the ML-90 is equally impressive in terms of comfort. Deep, supportive, and beautifully proportioned, it is a sofa designed to be enjoyed every day.
For those who may prefer a different look, we would be delighted to arrange bespoke reupholstery in a fabric of your choosing. While the original upholstery has great character and authenticity, the design lends itself wonderfully to a wide variety of contemporary fabrics and colours.
Highly sought after by collectors and interior designers alike, the ML-90 remains one of Illum Wikkelsø’s most admired creations and a genuine statement piece for any home or interior design project.
