Rare Hand Crafted Decorative Box In Lacquered Egg Shell
May 4, 2026A Remarkable Trio Of Nesting Boxes In Lacquered Egg Shell.
€1,250.00
This remarkable trio of nesting boxes is a striking example of Vietnamese eggshell lacquer craftsmanship, celebrated for its richly textured and highly decorative finish. Each piece is entirely handmade, with finely crushed eggshell fragments carefully set into layers of lacquer to create the distinctive crackled mosaic surface. The result is both tactile and visually refined, with a subtle interplay of tone, pattern, and precision that immediately draws the eye.
Beautifully tiered in form, the three boxes sit neatly within one another, while also working effortlessly as individual pieces. Their architectural silhouette and strong geometric detailing give them a sculptural presence, echoing the stylised façades and rhythmic symmetry often associated with Fornasetti designs. There is a clear sense of an imagined building or miniature monument here, lending the set a playful yet sophisticated character.
The interiors are finished in a contrasting dark lacquer, adding depth and a sense of completeness to each piece. Examples of this type of work have appeared at international auctions, including Sotheby’s, and similar sets are increasingly sought after within the decorative arts market.
Highly decorative, ornate, and undeniably unusual, this trio lends itself to a wide range of settings. Whether styled together on a console table or sideboard, or placed individually throughout an interior, they bring texture, character, and a refined focal point.
At Acquired, we are delighted to present this exceptional set within the collection, alongside two other similar examples, each offering its own subtle variation on this distinctive and collectible form.
